  • Although he was injured in East Mississippi Community College's first game of the 2011 season, Tyler still got to enjoy the fruits of his labor by being around and supportive of his teammates as they completed their quest for a junior college national championship.

"I got hurt in the first game but I was there supporting my team the entire season," said Tyler. "(Winning a national championship) means a lot. When we get older we will be able to look back and know that we will always be champions, something that no one will ever be able to take away from us."

He knows that winning a national championship brings even more challenges the following season.

"(This season) we are going to get everybody's best shot every game," said the youngster. "We are going to have to come out and execute and play hard and play well every game. We will have to do that to win every game."

Tyler is up to the challenge, though. He knows his strengths as a football player and also what he needs to continue to work on.

"I would say my main strength is being smart and knowing where to go on each play and being able to point out to any of the other guys who are not sure where to go," said Tyler. "My footwork and handwork are also a couple of my strengths.

"What I need to work on is my strength in the weight room, getting stronger, faster and more mobile. I am already pretty mobile but you can never be too fast."

He's hoping his improved play will help him land that coveted scholarship to the next level of college football. Several colleges are already showing interest in him.

"I've receiving interest from Ohio University, UT-San Antonio, Louisiana and Southern Illinois, just to name a few," said Tyler. "Hopefully, if I go out this season and play well, they'll continue to pursue me and offer a scholarship."
