"I committed to Oklahoma State about five or 10 minutes ago," said Ateman, who caught 67 passes for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
"I just liked everything about them -- the coaches, the players, they've had a lot of good success the last few seasons, and they throw the ball a lot and that's what I like," said Ateman.
Ateman was first offered by the Cowboys coaching staff when he traveled to Stillwater for Junior Day in February. "That was a surprise. I didn't know they were going to offer me," said the four-star recruit who also had offers from Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Purdue, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Virginia.
Ateman also said winning the Big 12 championship and playing in the Fiesta Bowl, the school's first ever BSC game, played a role in his decision.
"Yes, a lot. It showed me what they can do," he said. "Even though they lost their quarterback and Justin Blackmon, they still recruit highly sought players. I just know that they have recruited a lot of really good players the last few years, and I want to be a part of that."
Ateman said there is no need for any other teams to continue pursuing him, even though National Signing Day isn't until next February.
"It's all over," he said.
