Devon Desper and Madison Central felt they had a chance to knock off South Panola last season in the 6A North state title game.
Due to some first quarter miscues, that game was over in many respects shortly after it begun.
This Friday night, the Jaguars got some payback. Madison Central hit the Tigers early and then let their offensive line take over the game and lead them to a 28-14 win.
Madison Central advances to the 6A north title game again and will take on Olive Branch who knocked off the Jags in week on 28-24.
Xavier Grindle got a lot of attention from the North Forrest defense. Much of the first half, East Marion used the Eagles' focus against them as Xavier was a decoy on most plays.
Late in the second quarter, Xavier put together a few long runs to sustain a drive that ended with his own six yard touchdown run to make the score 21-0 East Marion.
North Forrest would rally in the second half, but Grindle and his 194 yards rushing proved to be too much as East Marion advances after the 41-27 win.
East Marion will travel to Bassfield next week in the 2A south state title game. The Yellow Jackets are the only team to beat East Marion this season. Bassfield won at home 13-7 in the earlier contest.
Torrey Bell and John Curtis continue to steamroll their competition. The Patriots destroyed Ville Platte 49-6 in second round playoff action last night.
Curtis will take on Kinder next week with a berth in the 2A state title game on the line. The John Curtis defense has held all but two opponents to one score or less this year.
Nelson Adams career at Brandon High School is now over. The Bulldogs played district foe Meridian hard in the rematch last night, but the Wildcats prevailed 16-0.
Jordan Washington walked off the high school field for the final time last night as North Gwinnett fell to Colquitt County 17-7.
Nick James saw his Long Beach squad lose the rematch with Pearl River Central 34-7.
PRC is one of the better stories in Mississippi High School football. Coached by former Tupelo head man Eric Collins, Pearl River will take on Picayune in the 5A south title game next week.
Dylan Holley and Gulf Coast lost to EMCC last weekend in the MACJC championship game.
The Bulldogs will play Blinn in the Mississippi Bowl December 4th.
Dylan was honored as first team selection by the NJCAA Region 23.
He was also named the South Region's most valuable offensive lineman.
