Deise Working Hard For Offer
Name: Alex Deise Position: Lefthanded Pitcher Classification: Class of 2012 HT: 6-3, WT: 190 High School: St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. Offers: Old Dominion, Virginia Commonwealth, Liberty University Lefthanded pitchers are always in high demand, and Mississippi State is showing interest in the 6'3 senior pitcher from the Washington, D.C. area. "I am a lefthanded pitcher with a fastball, changeup, and curveball," said Deise. "My strength is my changeup which I throw real well. My curveball is still inconsistent with the break but it is coming along real well. "I throw with a lot of movement being a lefty. I didn't bring my best velocity at camp, but for some reason my fastball still gets a lot of swings and misses even though it is not in the upper 80's or low 90's. "I throw in the mid 80's and every once in a while I'll hit the upper 80's. I do have a lot of movement though on my ball, and I'm just trying to improve my velocity. I also want to be able to throw any pitch on any count." The coaches were excited he was able to come down to Starkville and the feeling was mutual. "The camp was great, it was very well run and the coaches were all great," Deise said. "I loved the environment. The indoor mound was great to throw off of, but I didn't get to get on the field much which was a bit of a disappointment. I loved that indoor mound though. It was really cool to get to experience that." What was his first impression of the coaches? "(MSU head) Coach (John) Cohen is a great guy and really seems like a leader," he said. "He has a lot of wisdom and runs a great camp. (MSU assistant) Coach (Butch) Thompson, the pitching coach, is one I really loved. He does a great job with the MSU pitchers and I learned a lot from him. (MSU assistant) Coach (Lane) Burroughs was great and I liked him too. (Nick Mingione) the director of baseball camps, ran a solid camp and was very well organized." Deise also was able to connect with a few of the players, and also reunited with a former teammate which was exciting for him. "I got to meet C.T. Bradford and I already knew Nick Routt who I played with in high school," he said. "I was able to talk with them about the program and what they liked about it so that was helpful." Deise is receiving a lot of attention in the northern Virginia/ Washington D.C. area, and he hopes that he will be able to expand his offer list to the deep south. "I have a few offers," he said. "I have one from Old Dominion, Virginia Commonwealth and Liberty University. Mississippi State is really interested as well." He talked about the interest MSU has in him. "I talked with Coach Thompson after practice and he is going to call me on Wednesday to talk to me and see where they are about recruiting me. I think the coaches are interested and I really like the program, but they have not offered me yet." The time at the camp and his previous experience with the Bulldogs have them at the top of his list at this point in the recruiting process. "I'd like to play at Mississippi State, which is my number one," he added. "They have a great baseball program, the facilities are great and I love the campus. I hope to hear some good news from Coach Thompson Wednesday. I'm going to keep working hard to get it; I am going to go hard every time I get out there." The camp at Mississippi State will probably be the last stop for Deise this fall. He is heading back home to play in a local league as he prepares for his senior season. "I won't be getting around to any other camps this fall, but I am playing in a wooden bat fall league and that is about it," he said.
