Fred Thomas Commits To MSU

Jim Hill High School 2012 guard Fred Thomas (6-5, 180) committed to Mississippi State's Rick Stansbury Monday night.

"I just got off the phone with Rick Stansbury and I committed to Mississippi State," said Thomas by text. "I called him and told him I was ready to be a Bulldog. He was excited about it. We both were excited. I also talked to (MSU assistant) Coach (Phil) Cunningham. He was excited, too."

In a phone interview, he explained why he decided to commit.

"I decided to commit due to all the help Mississippi State has been showing me and how much they wanted me to be a Bulldog," said Thomas. "I just liked how they showed me so much love."

His recruiting coach, MSU assistant coach Phil Cunningham, as very instrumental in his decision.

"Coach Cunningham recruited me for Mississippi State," said Thomas. "I liked him because he came to my school and checked on my grades."

Although Thomas decided to commit Monday night, he has been seriously been thinking about it for two days.

"I was thinking about it all yesterday," said Thomas. "I decided I would go ahead and tell them (today)."

Although he still has a year of high school yet to be played, Thomas is already preparing for the physicalness of college ball.

"I am going to be more aggressive, stay on the weights and work on my ball-handling," said Thomas.

Fred Thomas joins Carver Senior High School (Montgomery, AL) guard Craig Sword on Mississippi State's 2012 commitment list.
