The Next Major Caledonia Football Prospect

The Next Major Caledonia Football Prospect

Caledonia High School, located in the small town of Caledonia, Mississippi, has had two major college prospects the past ten years, the Sherrod brothers, Dezmond and Derek, who played their college football at Mississippi State. And it looks like this small high school located just a few miles west of the Mississippi/Alabama border may have another one, junior offensive lineman Cole Carter.

And it appears Mississippi State was so pleased with the success they had with the Sherrod brothers that they have quickly jumped in the recruiting picture with Carter.

"Mississippi State has been the first school to show interest in me," said Carter, not only a talented football player but an exceptional student in the classroom. "They said by my senior year the scholarship offer is on the table if I am interested in taking it."

Carter plans on visiting Mississippi State and possibly one other SEC school during the upcoming college junior days.

"I've received an email about (Mississippi State's) Junior Day," said Carter. "I believe there is one in February and another one in April or somewhere around that time. I'm planning on going to one of those or maybe both of them. Alabama is another one that I am really considering going to as well. I have information about their Junior Day, too."

He explained what the coaches at Mississippi State like about him.

"They said they like my size, my footwork and my flexibility and they want me to come in and do the best I can to fill Derek's role," said the 6-6, 270-pounder.

While size and footwork are two of his best attributes, he also feels strength is becoming another attribute.

"Strength is an attribute of mine, but this is really my first real year of actually lifting weights," said Carter. "We've had a lot of coaching changes the past few years and we really haven't had that strong of a weight program."

Lifting weights it not the only thing new to him. The recruiting process is also a new experience for him. And he couldn't be happier that it has finally stated happening for him.

"I'm really excited about the entire recruiting process as a whole," said Carter, who plans on majoring in engineering or possibly law. "Derek (Sherrod) told me it can be an enjoyable thing to go through. He said just to keep my options open and not take the first thing that comes my way."
