While former Mississippi State standout Mitch Moreland and his Texas Rangers teammates are prepping for Wednesday night's World Series opener against the San Francisco Giants, coach John Cohen's Baseball Bulldogs open their four-game Bulldog World Series with a 3:30 p.m. game at Dudy Noble Field. The intrasquad series wraps up more than six weeks of fall baseball practice at Mississippi State.
Game times are set for 4 p.m. Friday, 12 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. If necessary, a special tiebreaker will be utilized for a playoff Sunday to determine whether the Maroon team or the Gray squad will feast Monday night on steaks or hot dogs at a Bulldog World Series payoff dinner.
A pair of right-handers are expected to draw starting mound duty in Wednesday afternoon's series opener --- Holmes Community College transfer Brandon McHenry from Madison, Miss., for the Maroons and freshman Tanner Gaines from Baldwyn, Miss., for the Grays.
The games are set to go eight innings and are open to the public. Pitchers during the series are restricted to no more than 20 pitches per inning and 70 pitches per game.
Mississippi State's 44-player fall baseball roster was divided in a draft conducted by the eight senior players and revealed to the team Monday night during an NBA/NFL-style draft announcement program in the Colvard Student Union Building.
